Battle of Yorktown

The Battle of Yorktown (1862) was a battle of the American Civil War that was part of the Union offensive called the Peninsular Campaign. It happened when several regiments under Union commander George McClellan troops met a regiment of the Confederate troops near Yorktown, Virginia along the York River. Considered a skirmish because of the limited number of troops involved, the battle of yorktown resulted in an estimated 320 causalties. The resulting Union victory in the battle of yorktown allowed the Union forces to continue their advance up the Virginia Peninsula towards Richmond.

The battle took place near the 1781 Battle of Yorktown, the last battle of the American Revolutionary War in the east.

The battle of yorktown had a total strength of 146,000 soldiers for the United States of America, and only 11,000 soldiers for the Confederate States.  As you can tell, the Union forces had much stronger numbers and the armies of the Union were typically more organized.
